October's dog of the day: Clyde

Clyde is a sweet guy with a heart of gold, who is waiting to find that special companion to take him to his forever home. Clyde came to PAWS as a stray from the Lynnwood, Wash. area and is five years old. He's got white fur with a cute black spot over one eye. Clyde would do best in a home with children aged seven and older. He's fun and goofy and absolutely adores people. Clyde is great on the leash and friendly to other dogs. He's eager to meet you!

To learn more about adopting Clyde, please visit is his profile page on Petfinder.com.

To celebrate Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog month, all adoption fees of canines over six months old are reduced to $75 for the month of October at PAWS.

If you would like to carry on the good works of Seattle area animal lovers, CityDog will post a blog each day this week on fun ways to help animals.

First...Do yoga (or "doga," as it's officially called). In other words, bring your dog with you to yoga class on May 11, 2008 at the Seattle Humane Society. This class, taught by local yogi and fellow dog lover Brenda Bryan, is a fun way to explore yoga, massage, stretching, and relaxation techniques for both you and your dog PLUS raise money for the Seattle Humane Society. CityDog Loves...AmazonFresh.com!

So, I hate grocery shopping...always have. But, when I received an email out of the blue from Seattle-based AmazonFresh.com announcing they now delivered to my neighborhood, I had to try it out. So, I went online, ordered my groceries and the next morning they were delivered to my front door! Love it! So much so, that I was trying to figure out a way to share it with CityDog Blog readers, but "Hey everybody, there's an awesome grocery delivery service" didn't quite work for a dog blog. However, today I received yet another email announcing that they now carry pet products! Voila! They carry organic pet foods like Castor + Pollux plus toys, treats and supplements for both cats and dogs, and even products for birds, bunnies and other critters.

Check it out at AmazonFresh.com.

You can have your cake and eat it too!

In the spring issue of CityDog Magazine, we feature an article titled: "Here Comes the Dog: Couples say 'I do' to dogs in their weddings." Written by Seattle writer Cathy Herholdt, it's a fun article loaded with ideas and tips for including your four-legged friend in one of the most important days of your life – your wedding. In it, there's a photo taken by La Vie Photography (see above) featuring a wedding cake, a fire engine and two dogs, and it left us wondering, "Is it all cake?" Indeed it is! Leave it to Seattle's own Mike's Amazing Cakes to amaze us!

Dogs Unleashed at First Thursday Art Walk in Seattle's Pioneer Square

"Dogs Unleashed," by artists (and identical twins) Raya and Heidel Bethel, is a fun and witty series that plays on today's culture and our fascination with dogs. Humorous yet sophisticated, these paintings capture our attention by placing dogs in human situations, incorporating the activities of popular culture and human emotion. The paintings' bold, graphic imagery and rich colors depict narratives of both life and the imagination.

If you love art and dogs, be sure to check out this exhibit:

...Dog Park Wisdom by Lisa Wogan.

Hot-off-the-press is the holy grail for wagging tails! Dog Park Wisdom: Real-World Advice on Choosing, Caring For, and Understanding Your Canine Companion (Skipstone, $18.95) is written by Seattle author and pet blogger Lisa Wogan and features photography by renowned Seattle dog photographer Bev Sparks.

Broken into manageable sections, Dog Park Wisdom explores bringing home a new pooch, getting the digs ready, introducing them to a routine, socializing at parks and trails, and traveling with furry baggage. From breaking bad habits to understanding canine emotions, Wogan covers everything from potty training tips to grooming, proper playtime and off-leash etiquette.

You might even recognize a dog or two from past CityDog covers photographed by Bev (shepherd-mix Zephyr from the winter '06 issue; the crazy Jack Russell terriers, Dodger, Sunny and Milo from fall '05; and beagles Peggy Sue and Maggie from fall '06).
